Welcome!
Hello and welcome to this site! My name is Ashley Ivins and I am a Project Manager, Nursing Technician, Researcher, Robotics Coach, Girl Scout Leader, Mother, Wife, and wear a few other hats as well! I am a teacher at my alma mater, Capitan High School, in rural Capitan, NM.
I created this page to document my adventures as a fellow for the Teachers For Global Classrooms (TGC) program. The TGC program is a program of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX. It is a professional development opportunity that will allow me to globalize my teaching and my scholar's learning. I am humbled to have such an amazing opportunity. Through this program I will soon be traveling to the country of Morocco! Throughout my journey I will be chronicling my travel and learning experiences on this page and developing and sharing educational resources for anyone to utilize. I invite you to come along with me on this journey of a lifetime as I have the opportunity to enrich the educational opportunities for scholars from New Mexico!
Wondering what global education is? It sometimes feels that the more I learn about global education the more difficult it becomes to define as just one idea. I believe that global education involves teaching students to become more aware of the world around them and to become participants in learning and understanding global events and their significance. While the world sometimes seems large we are all intertwined delicately and the more we learn about others the more informed decisions we can make, even if we never leave home.
This website also includes a working body of knowledge that will grow and change as I learn more and find more resources that I feel will be of use to others. Please feel free to utilize and share the links and resources within this site to begin your own springboard into the world of globalizing education. I welcome collaboration, suggestions of new resources, etc.
Cheers and happy traveling!
